UPDATES

I am so tamad to blog these days. It's because of work and 'the blog'. Unless you've been living under a rock the past 2 months I'm sure you know what blog I'm referring to.

Enough of my excuses. It's time to blog about the past (naturally).

In my last post I was trying to get a lot of things done while my officemates were out on their summer outing.

1. Do my performance appraisal - NOT SUCCESSFUL
2. Organize my files - SUCCESSFUL BUT COULD HAVE DONE BETTER
3. Have a haircut - NOT SUCCESSFUL
4. Go to Anton's OT - NOT SUCCESSFUL

Obviously I didn't get much done. And it's because Anton had another fever Thursday night. I was hinayang with the OT so I was thinking of still going til the last minute but then my momminess kicked in. I realized that there are many germs in the therapy center and if he rested he might be well enough by Saturday to go to Kindermusik. And that's exactly what happened. Unlike his fever the other week which lasted for almost 48 hours, this fever was gone in less than 24 hours.

So at least Anton was well again that weekend. That's the good part. The bad part is my yaya took a leave. It was her birthday last Saturday and asked for 2 days off. I really missed her. I did not have a break from Anton for 2 whole days. Though I love to take care of Anton on weekends I would need my 'alone time'. Maybe 1 hour in the morning and another hour in the afternoon. Just a short break from the endless breastfeeding sessions and exhausting playtime. As I always say Anton is a high need baby and he is at his peak. Some moms I know say this will improve by the time they're 3 or 4. I really hope so.

So that's my update. Can't wait for tomorrow. Big holiday and I have a yaya. Will be back on Friday.

FOCUS

Most of my officemates are out for our summer outing. It's very peaceful now at the office. Time to do the things I have been putting off for months.

I have to do my performance appraisal.

I have to organize my files.

I also have time until tomorrow to have a haircut.

And make takas to go to Anton's OT tomorrow morning.

So I have to focus. No blogging until next week.

I hope.

BEACH DAY

We went to Beachwood Resort in Sariyaya, Quezon Tuesday night for the Omni Orient summer outing. It was really far and liblib so buti nalang sinusundan namin ang van ng officemate ni Neal. Or else baka instead of 9:30 pm kami nakarating baka 12 midnight na.

The place was just ok, nothing special. Our room rate was P3,500. For this price I expected more. It had 2 double beds but the aircon was so tiny so we had to borrow 2 electric fans. There was also no water heater. Buti nalang the water was not that cold. There was 1 kiddie pool and an adult pool with 2 slides. Anton preferred the beach so he had no pool pictures. The sand was pretty fine and the beach was clean. I noticed that there were a lot of staff with plastic bags roaming the place to pick-up trash.

We all enjoyed our beach day yesterday. We wish though that we swam more pero since it was too hot we were limited to 7-9 am and 4-5 pm.

Here are some photos to show how our little one enjoyed his beach day.

Anton prefers to play with plastic spoons that his sand toys.
Steady, steady

Feeling the wet sand

Loving the sand

OUR EARLY INTERVENTION

The first time I heard about a development pedia was in n@w. I would read the entries about this topic and at that time (Anton was over 12 months then) I had no problems with Anton's developmental milestones. He rolled over, cooed, laughed, crawled, walked and pointed more or less according to the charts. The only things I was concerned about was his feeding, talking and behavior. I admit that I should have let Anton feed himself as early as 8 months. Ayan tuloy until now pati biscuit sinusubo pa sa kanya. And when he turned 18 months I got really concerned about his speech and behavior. He does know a few words like Dada and Mama but he was not consistent in saying it like he means it. Mahirap din sya turuan. He does not like it when we touch his hands when we try to show or teach him something. And he easily gets frustrated and throw tantrums when he cannot do or get what he likes (like press the right letter on the keyboard or when we sing to him the wrong song). Last but not least very clingy sya. Parang lumala ang stranger anxiety nya. Dati tumatakbo takbo sya sa mall. Ngayon pati sa labas lang ng unit namin gusto nya karga sya. When we go nga to the doctor lalabas palang ng elevator mega cry na sya. So imagine how bugbog kami when we carry him. Super bigat at likot talaga nya.

So sobrang in time ang pag visit namin kay Dra. Cricket Chen last March. Anton had colds then and Dra. Chen noticed na super iyakin at clingy si Anton. She said the reason why Anton could be clingy is because he cannot express himself. So she suggested to have Anton assessed by a dev pedia. She said that disorders when treated by 1.5 yrs is reversible. Ngayon dito ako nagising. I told her there's a long waiting line for dev pedias so she referred Dr. Francis Dimalanta from St. Lukes.

When I called Dr. Dimalanta's clinic I was still waitlisted. But the secretary asked me to pick-up an information form so that I can fill it up before my slot. It was definitely a long form. I had to refer to my preggy book and Anton's baby book for answers. I also had to know how old Anton was when he hit his milestones. I'm afraid I did not log all the milestones so I just had to guess the answers to some hehe. When I submitted the form back to the secretary I gave her pa Krispy Kreme para mapaaga ang slot ko. Yes it's a bribe. Para maalala nya ako diba :) At success sya. After about 2 weeks we were finally given a slot last April 7. I was a little inis because even if we had a slot we had to wait for about 30 mins which is a long time for Anton. He was not in the best mood since he didn't have siesta yet. May I also add na wala palang aircon ang waiting room sa Medical Arts Bldg. Sila lang ata ang clinic na walang aircon ang waiting room. Nainis tuloy ako kasi P2,500 ang PF tapos walang aircon.

When the previous patient finally stepped out at tumayo na kami papasok iyak na si Anton. Dr. Dimalanta told us not to look at Anton while he's crying. Doc noticed Anton was maka-Daddy since he was begging Neal to carry him. Kitang-kita ang ebidensya, maka Daddy talaga. After he cried a good 5 minutes Neal carried him already. After this episode Doc suggested OT for Anton. Sympre tinanong ko kung kailangan ba talaga ng anak ko ang OT. I mean all he saw was Anton crying diba. He was not even able to play with the toys in the clinic. Pero sabi ni Doc that it's best to solve the problem while he is still very young. Sa OT daw kahit 1 hour sya umiyak ok lang. He needed the OT daw for behavior modification and sensory integration. Kapag ok na daw ang behavior then we can have speech therapy naman.

Doc also recommended the following for Anton.

1. Establish a daily routine.

2. Set limits.

a. No TV or toys while eating.

b. Eat only at the table for a designated period of time.

c. Do not force feed.

d. Present toys one at a time.

e. Pack away own toys.

f. TV limited to 1 hr/day

3. Allow for more independence.

4. Ignore temper tantrums.

5. Mean what you say and say what you mean.

6. Be generous with praise when appropriate.

7. Read to him at bedtime 10-15 mins. Same book/week up to 2 books/night.

Dr. Dimalanta gave us 2 therapy centers to choose from. I called both and we were waitlisted again! Grabe from the dev pedia to the therapy centers waitlisted forever! I was looking nga at the autismpinoy site and they say that approximately 1 in 150 children has autism. I texted Dr. Dimalanta about this and he said he will try to help me get an earlier slot.

While we were waiting for the OT, we followed Dr. Dimalanta's recommendations. We do have a schedule at home but not this strict. First thing we did was keep all of Anton's toys. Sa dami kasi ng toys nya, madaming nakatago at madami pa din nakalabas. We also made sure the only place he eats is sa table. When he eats sa bedroom (we don't have aircon sa dining so sometimes he eats upstairs when it's too hot) inaakyat namin ang high chair so parang table pa din. After following the recommendations strictly for a few days we noticed Anton having a more peaceful sleep. Ang galing diba?

And last Friday Anton had his initial evaluation in Able Center in Makati. This place had no signs outside. Para lang syang house. Pagpasok palang namin iyak na naman si Anton. When we came in there were about 6 kids already in the waiting area. The youngest I saw was 4 yrs old and all of them looked like average kids. While we waited for our therapist Anton played in their play area and was even exploring the place on his own. I love the place too. There's lots of toys and very inviting.

I loved the place even more when we met our therapist. The therapists I saw at first were all young. Most probably in their early 20's. But Teacher Edessa is a mom of 3 which makes her so much better because not only does she have more work experience but may hands-on mommy experience pa.

Anton was warmed up already by the time we went to our cubicle so he played with the toys Teacher Edessa gave him. While Anton was playing I told Teacher what problems we are having with Anton. Napansin nya agad na medyo spoiled si Anton. Maybe the reason daw why he was not talking yet is because he can get naman what he wants automatically. De-susi kung baga. Like when he raises his hands, carry na agad si Daddy. Dapat daw let him speak first. When he does not say what he wants, we should not give it. Teacher pa nga said na baka naman gifted si Anton. Anton was able to sort the shapes accordingly, he was holding the marker appropriately for his age and Teacher even saw him explore (more like getting the toys from the other kids) and dance. In short parang kami ang problema at hindi si Anton hehehe.

But of course we have to come back for more sessions because she cannot make a report based on a single session. Dr. Dimalanta wanted Anton to have OT twice a week for 3 months but Teacher can only accommodate Anton once a week. In fact I like the place and Teacher so much that I want him to have therapy as often as we can. If I only knew OT could be so much fun sana hindi ko na pinag Little Gym si Anton hehehe. Anton kasi is more of an observer so he does not do all the skills sa TLG. Pero happy pa din naman ako cos ang laki na din ng improvement nya sa TLG. But I digress. Anton's schedule is Fridays at 9 am. I'm a little sad that I cannot go with Anton every week since I have work but I'm sure Teacher will keep me updated well.

So this is where I end this post. Super haba na nito. To finish this off Neal is a much improved Daddy. He now knows the importance of discipline. Before he does not like Anton to cry and will just do what Anton asks him to do. Just for this I'm so glad we did early intervention. Not only will Anton gain from this but most important naturuan din ang mga clueless parents like me and Neal.

FLOATERS

We were finally able to buy a floater suit for Anton. We've been looking for one from Toy Kingdom or SM but it was always out of stock. We were on our way to my parents-in-law's place in Paranaque when I saw the banner of SM Bicutan's 3-day sale. I immediately told hubby that we will have a stop-over and get some lunch as well.

First thing we looked for was the floaters and there were a lot of stock in the department store! They were only P500+ which is way cheaper than the floaters we saw in Rustans and Powerplant. In fact this is cheaper pa nga than the swim diapers we bought from BLSS. They only had 1 size left which is for 3-6 yrs. old but since Anton's a biggie it fit him na din.

Anton was not in the mood for a photo opp. But will have better pics for sure on Wednesday when we go to Quezon for Neal's outing.

THE FORBIDDEN KINGDOM

I just learned about this movie yesterday morning while we were at SM Bicutan. It's the first (and maybe the last) movie starring 2 of the biggest Asian stars, Jackie Chan and Jet Li. I did not even know it was showing already until I texted CTC for the current movies. There were 2 theaters in Powerplant showing this movie (out of 6 theaters) and all the evening shows last night were packed. In fact we had to settle for a later show because the next screening (we were buying the tickets an hour before the show) only had seats in the first 2 rows.

The movie was pretty entertaining though the story was predictable and a bit cheesy. This is a lighter movie compared to Hero and Crouching Tiger. I would even say it's for the whole family since there was a lot of comedy and there wasn't too much blood. And the actors were great. But I just thought the fight scene of Jackie Chan and Jet Li took too long. It really looks like this is the first and last time they'll do it and they wanted to give everyone something to remember. The American actor did a great job too. He's the same kid from Sky High and I think he's a very effective actor.

Check out the official site here.

I'm glad I saw this movie. I just love Jackie Chan and Jet Li. And what did my hubby want to watch? The Superhero Movie! Buti nalang napigilan ko.

TW IN BOXES

Lately Anton seems irritated when wearing his disposable diapers. It could be the warmer weather which makes the disposables unbearable for him to wear. So I just had to buy more TWs from Jen.

TWs now come in boxes. It's P1,000 for the 3 diapers regardless of the size. Since Anton wears large it is more affordable now. The large size used to be P350 per piece. And there are new colors to choose from. Check it out in Jen's Multiply site here.

NO SHOW

We were in the middle of our Kindermusik trial in New Manila when I felt Anton getting warmer. I thought it was just the heat, but when we went home he definitely grew warmer.

And I was really sad because I knew he would miss his show day at Little Gym.

I was expecting a big bang from Anton. He really likes Teacher Paolo.

But there won't be a show day very soon. For now this is his last quarter at TLG.

Because I will transfer him to Kindermusik.

I'm really so sad.

Here he is the other week.

Anton loves to go inside the hotdog.

And shoot the balls in the basket.

Anton has 1 more class this Sunday. Last time to shake the bells, play the drums and the works.

Bye bye Little Gym.

MOMMY TAKEOVER

Thank God I'm now back to work. I have been on leave the whole week last week (exept for Wednesday afternoon) because my yaya has been sick.

She was not feeling too well last Tuesday so I took care of Anton the whole day. The next day she felt better so I went to the office that afternoon. But when I came home I could see she has colds and her eyes were watery. The next day she had a fever and had red spots all over her body. So what else can I do but take her to the doctor. With Neal watching over Anton we went to Medical Plaza and she was diagnosed with strep infection, and this was later confirmed from the blood tests she had. It's basically a bacterial throat infection and the doctor said she can pass it on to my son. I sent her to my mom's house while she recovers.

The last time I had no yaya was when I was still on maternity leave. Well I had a yaya but I still had no house help that time so I was really all alone with my baby. Anyway, I can't even start to explain how tired I was. And may I also add that Anton had a slight fever starting Saturday afternoon? It really went from bad to worse.

But no matter how stressed and tired I was it was good to have some quality time with Anton. And I was able to list new rules for my yaya. Oh another good thing, I think I was able to lose at least a pound from my 4-day Mommy Takeover :)

U2 3D

I first found out about this on Our Awesome Planet. I love watching 3D movies so I just have to see this concert. So I dragged hubby to watch with me last Sunday. I know he would not enjoy it (I was right, he slept daw a bit during the movie) but wala syang choice.

I will recommend this especially to U2 and band fans out there. Now I see why they are one of the best bands. For the entire show there were only 4 of them on stage. No dancers, back-up singers, props nor gimmicks. It was just pure talent.

After the movie I was still singing Sunday Bloody Sunday. Now I love U2 more.

You can find the schedule on MOA Imax here. P500 per ticket.

STILL GROWING

Anton went to the pedia last Monday for his Hib booster. As usual paglabas palang namin sa elevator nag-iiyak na sya. It is such a chore to get his weight and height. And doctora can barely check his breathing and ears.

At 21 months Anton can't help but grow bigger. Here are his measurements, comparing from 3 months ago.

Head - 48 cm (+1 cm)
Chest - 56 cm (+4 cm)
Weight - 14.5 kg (+1.5 kg)
Height - 90 cm (+6 cm)

According to Dra. Ruth this is a big growth spurt. Para pa din syang baby hehehe. And she was especially surprised sa chest. Dapat daw halos pantay lang ang head and chest hahaha! Sabi ko nga pinagda-diet ko na sya. Pinabawas ko na ang rice and fruits nalang snacks niya. Sabi naman ni Dra. that I shouldn't bother sa diet nya since he only takes breastmilk naman and he does not eat junk foods. Well what can I say, gifted sya with his mom's old fats hahaha!

Here's Anton's pics last Sunday.

Sleepy at the Little Gym

Sleeping at Dencio's. Anton wasn't able to wait for his lunch.

Playing driver at Time Zone

Special thanks to Tita Den for Anton's shirts and to Tita Em for the lunch at Market Market. Love you sisters!

FIRST TABLE

Neal and I bought Anton's first table last weekend at Toy Kingdom in SM Makati. We like that this is made of metal because Anton can easily knock over plastic furniture.

Chair still too high for him (see his feet off the floor) but I bet it will be alright in a few months.

The Disney Cars design is out of stock so we had to settle for Mickey. Table is P999 and the chair is P699.
